The biggest comic con in the Downriver area returns to Lincoln Park June 4-5 with a diverse and expansive vendor lineup, costume contest, art contest and auction.
Hands of the City of Lincoln Park presents the Eighth Annual Downriver Comic & Collectibles Show at Lincoln Park High School, 1701 Champaign Road.
Although not required, many attendees like to dress in both villain and superhero attire.
A costume contest sponsored by Green Brain Comics will take place at 1 p.m. on June 4. Prizes will be awarded to youth and adults.
An art contest sponsored by Lincoln Towne will be held at 1 p.m. on June 5. An auction, sponsored by Magnetic Ferret, will take place at 2 p.m. The auction will include collectibles, as well as Star Trek and comic book memorabilia.
“Comic books were instrumental in my learning to read,” said chairman Michael Higgins. “The short sentences, along with the fantastic illustrations and plots, made for enjoyable reading.”
To this day, Higgins said, he still has a huge comic book collection and looks forward to events for comic book lovers, like this one.
But even for those who may not have collected comic books as children or as adults, many of the characters they’ll see at the event are familiar to them from blockbuster movies.
“These beloved characters hail from comic books,” Higgins said. “Join us in your favorite costume and enjoy being with others in the Collector’s Multiverse.”
Admission donations are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. All proceeds are donated to high school athletic programs.
