Cris Collinsworth explained the origin of Collinsworth’s slide-in and revealed if he would ever return

So there you go folks! One of life’s simplest pleasures wasn’t the product of Cris Collinsworth having effortless fun or oozing the perfect amount of pre-night swagger we’ve been waiting for all day. It was just a happy accident thanks to an angry cameraman and a goofy 6’5″ football presenter with a shitty grin walking around in a chair with duct tape between his legs. Yes, that seems patently absurd when I type it in. But there’s no way Cris would tell a lie to someone as lovely as Kay Adams.

Now, while Collinsworth’s slide origin story is interesting, the news that he’s dead for the time being is going to break some hearts. But I think I’m okay with that. The slide was an Al and Cris thing. As a fellow Italian, I know Mike Tirico would have no problem talking a bit in an opening monologue to give Collinsworth an excuse to get going. But that just wouldn’t feel right.

If my parents divorced and then remarried, I wouldn’t want my in-laws to act exactly the same way my parents did when they were together. It would be weird for them and it would be weird for everyone watching. Yeah I just compared a few NFL announcers to my parents since I probably spend more time with NFL announcers on TV than with my parents in person during football season so to say that’s not not so exaggerated.

Come to think of it, I should probably go say hello to my parents since they live two minutes away. So I leave you with a heartfelt tribute to what was the perfect first sip of our weekly NFL Sunday last drink for about 4 months. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
