Fall and Halloween activities, community dinners

Hazelgreen Baptist Church, 5022 W. 115th St.: Harvest Party from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 29. Fire pits will be set up in the parking lots and s’mores, coffee, cider and cocoa will be served. Flossmoor Community Church, 2218 Hutchison Road: Good Gourd Fall Community Party from 2-5 p.m. Saturday outside the Church Community House. Fun for all ages includes food and craft vendors, live music, BYOB, pumpkin decorating, games and contests with prizes. St. John’s United Church of Christ, 11100 Second St.: Take-out turkey dinners can be picked up from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on November 5 at a drive-thru set up by the community center. Tickets for the dinners are $15 each and must be purchased by October 29 at the church office (hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday). Information: 708-479-5123.

St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 10621 S. Kedvale Avenue: Anointing Mass at 4 p.m. Saturday. The elders of the church will pray for anyone in need of physical, emotional or spiritual healing and anoint them with oil. Information: 708-425-2850.

Our Lady of the Ridge/St. Linus Parish, 10300 S. Lawler Ave.: Mass of Remembrance at noon on October 30 for all those who have passed away, but especially for those who have lost the parish over the past year. Additionally, Books of Remembrance will be at both worship sites beginning the weekend of October 29-30 for all deceased worshipers. Oak Lawn United Reformed Church, 9350 S. 54th Ave. : Trunk or Treat and Community Dinner are scheduled from 3-5 p.m. on October 29. The event takes place in the parking lot. Volunteers open chests or the back of their vehicles and decorate them before distributing candies in the chests. Stick around for the BBQ, burgers, and kiddos after the kids collect candy. St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 10621 S. Kedvale Avenue: Memorial Mass at 4 p.m. on October 29 for anyone who has lost a loved one in the past year. Dinner will be served in Kane Hall after mass. An elevator is available. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7800 W. McCarthy Road: Trunk or Treat from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 29 in the rear parking lot. Church volunteers will distribute sweets and other items from decorated trunks, and goody bags will be distributed. The event will move indoors in case of bad weather. Participants are encouraged to dress up. Members of the Palos Park Fire Department and the Palos Heights Police Department will participate. Moraine Valley Church, 6300 W. 127th St.: The annual Operation Blessing Pancake Brunch is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 29. The donation is $8 per person or $15 per family. A bake sale will be available. Operation Blessing, a nonprofit humanitarian organization, helps provide hunger relief, medical care, clean water, and disaster relief to millions of people around the world.
