Fall Festivals and Family Activities in York County

Fall is fast approaching and nothing says fall better than pumpkin carving and outdoor festivals, while sipping hot cider and admiring the colorful leaves.

From beer and wine festivals to family events for kids, Central Pennsylvania has plenty of fun activities and festivals to enjoy this season. Discover some of them:

Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival – 95 Presidential Circle, Gettysburg

Taste hundreds of wines from Pennsylvania vineyards and spirits from local distilleries, while listening to live music. Participants may bring chairs, portable tents (with the appropriate ticket and in designated areas) and blankets.

This 2-day event will run from Saturday, September 10 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to Sunday, September 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are available on the event website. Advance general admission tickets are $30 each and designated driver tickets are $15 each.

oyster festival – 217 Princess Street West, York

In York, The Oyster Festival has been around for over four decades and not only offers incredible food, but also offers family activities, live music, children’s activities and baked goods. The event offers free entry and attendees are encouraged to bring their families and explore the Agriculture and Industry Museum.

The 2022 Oyster Festival will take place on Sunday, October 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum of the History Center.

The York County Heritage Trust Oyster Festival is a great local tradition.

New Freedom Day – 22, avenue du chemin de fer, new freedom

This old-time “festival of small town life” includes music, arts and crafts, animals, food, games, pumpkin painting and more – all centered around the historic town of New Freedom. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enjoy food from local restaurants, live music and a pet parade, while supporting local artists and artisans, including jewelers, potters, photographers, weavers and carvers, who will sell their work.

JCC Fall Festival – 2000 Hollywood Drive, York

On Wednesday, October 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., the Jewish Community Center of York will host an evening of food, entertainment and activities for all ages.

This free, family-friendly event will feature live music, balloon artists, arts and fitness activities, a petting zoo and food trucks for outdoor dining.

Dillsburg Oktoberfest – Historic Dill’s Tavern: 227 N. Baltimore St., Dillsburg

Enjoy an afternoon celebrating German culture at this traditional German folk festival featuring Bavarian music, food, drink, costume and entertainment. This event, rain or shine, will take place on Saturday, September 10, from noon to 7 p.m.

Tickets are available on their website and cost $15 for non-members, $10 for members, students, and active military (ID required); $5 for under 21s and free admission for under 12s.

New Oxford Harvest Day Festival and Parade – 27 Center Square, New Oxford

Enjoy a day filled with fall fun at the 15th Annual Harvest Festival Festival and Parade. The event will take place on Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Harvest Day will feature craft and food vendors, free activities for kids, and a parade that begins at 3 p.m.

Pumpkin Walk on the Rail Trail – 1 Cherry St., Seven Valleys

On Saturday, October 22, from 4-10 p.m., head to Seven Valleys for the York County Rail Trail Authority’s Pumpkin Walk event.

Enjoy a 0.6 mile walk on the trail, decorated and lit with hand carved pumpkins.

Although admission is free, there is a suggested donation of $5, which benefits the York County Rail Trail Authority’s work to develop new miles of rail trails in York County.

yorktoberfest – York Memorial Park: Vander Avenue, York

Sample locally made wine, spirits and beer, plus food and snacks at the Yorktoberfest Beer and Wine Festival on Saturday, October 15, from noon to 5 p.m., at York Memorial Park.

Sip and Walk: Spooky Spirits – Central square in downtown Hannover

Wear your Halloween costume while sipping, strolling, shopping, and exploring downtown Hannover after dark on Saturday, October 8, 6-9 p.m.

Join Downtown Inc., Saturday, October 29, 1:30-5:30 p.m. for a walking/tasting tour of downtown York restaurants and pubs, pairing craft beers with food inspired by the fall.

Shrewsbury Firefighters Autumn Festival – 21 W Forrest Ave, Shrewsbury

The Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company will hold their 5th annual Shrewsbury Firefighters Autumn Festival. The free, family-friendly event will feature rides by Russ Amusements, games, savory and sweet treats from local food trucks, live entertainment and more than 40 craft vendors.

The two-day event will take place from Friday, September 30, from 3-8 p.m. to Saturday, October 1, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Pippinfest – 108 Main Street West, Fairfield

Enjoy a day of fall crafts, food and fun at the 41st Annual Pippinfest, rain or shine, Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, September 25 from 9 a.m. at 16 o’clock.

National Apple Harvest Festival at the South Mountain Fairgrounds – 615 Narrows Road, Biglerville

Located in the heart of Pennsylvania’s apple country, this two-weekend festival features artisan crafts, delicious food, entertainment, and apples — of course.

Festival attractions range from steam engine exhibits, live music, vintage cars, orchard tours, pony rides, tastings, artisan demonstrations and more.

The event will take place over two weekends:

  • Saturday October 1 at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday October 2 at 9:30 a.m.
  • Saturday October 8 at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday October 9 at 9:30 a.m.

La Ruche: Fall Festival – 3665 Bull Road, York

Celebrate autumn at The Hive and Dottie’s Family Market in Dover with 40 craft vendors set up with handcrafted items for sale. Satisfy your fall cravings with treats from local food trucks in addition to offerings from the Hive Coffee House as well as Dottie’s Family Market.

A free pumpkin painting will be available with the purchase of a pumpkin, as well as a fall-themed photo station. Enjoy free face painting for the kids, plus on-site alpacas for guests to greet and feed.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
