First Look At Origin Tale Of ‘Toy Story’ Space Ranger – Deadline

To infinity… and before!

Here is our first look at Light year, the Disney/Pixar Origin Story of Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear from the toy story movies. Check out the trailer above and the teaser poster below.

Chris Evans takes over the titular voice role from Tim Allen, who handled the duties in all four toy story feature films and a myriad of shorts and spinoffs. On “Starman” by David Bowie, the Light year The trailer follows our hero as he takes his first test flight “after a full year of abandonment on this planet.”

Joined by robot cat Sox (Peter Sohn), young Buzz encounters the expected turbulence on his intergalactic journey, which includes an encounter with “just a massive robot.” (Guess who!)

The voice cast also includes Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Dale Soules, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

The pic was written by Pixar veteran and three-time Oscar winner Pete Docter for Animated Feature (soul, upside down and At the top) which also shared an Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for the original toy story. The pic is directed by Angus MacLane, a solo feature debut who directed the 2013 entertaining short Toy Story of Terror!

“Buzz’s world has always been something that I’ve been excited about,” said MacLane, the first solo director. “In toy story, there seemed to be this incredible story of him as a Space Ranger that is only scratched the surface, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my tear of light pitch was: ‘What movie did Andy see that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see this movie. And now I have the chance to make it happen.

The film opens June 17 in theaters.
