Marathon County Public Library Activities

From April 1-30, adults can pick up a free Grab & Go craft kit at any of nine Marathon County Public Library locations. The kit will contain supplies to make a spring-inspired thimble bouquet pendant. Free and available while supplies last. For more information, call 715-261-7230.


Young writers ages 9-18 are invited to submit original, unpublished poems for MCPL’s Youth Poetry Contest through May 27. There is no length limit and each person can submit two poems. Entrants must be residents of Marathon County. Submit nominations to [email protected] or drop them off in person at any MCPL location. Winners will receive recognition and prizes. The Library and Extension County Marathon will be offering virtual classes in soil health and composting on April 6 from 10-11 a.m., with the class repeating that evening from 6-7 p.m. Both courses will take place via the Zoom app. Participants can attend the session virtually via webcam or telephone. Acclaimed children’s book author and illustrator Matthew Forsythe will offer a virtual reading of his new book “Mina” on April 23 from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., via Zoom. “Mina” tells the story of a mouse who is certain that the squirrel his father brought home is actually a cat – and who is not very happy about it! In-person Family Story Hours are back at the library! Listen to stories read by library staff members and sing along to upbeat songs on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and again on April 28 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Wausau Headquarters, 300 N.
