National Night Out activities return to Village Coral Reef Park on August 2

Palmetto Bay’s Coral Reef Park will be the site of the annual “National Night,” taking place on Tuesday, August 2. As in the past, the Village Police Unit is working in conjunction with the Parks Department for the event.

On the first Tuesday in August, millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out in thousands of communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases around the world.

An annual community-building campaign, it promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and better places to live.

Parks and Recreation Director Fanny Carmona explained the importance of the event.

“National Night Out improves the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a real sense of community,” Carmona said. “Plus, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together in positive circumstances.

Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, barbecues and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, emergency personnel visits, exhibits and much more .

The event will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will be the Resource Fair, featuring village programs such as Crime Watch, Rad Kids and others. There will be PTSA booths for local schools and free bicycle helmets provided by the Florida Department of Transportation will be given away.

There will be inflatables, face painting, tennis activities and a balloon artist. For adults there will be ax throwing and a mechanical bull. There will be free frozen lemonade (while supplies last). Food vendors will sell a variety of food items from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and at 8:15 p.m. the Disney movie Encanto will be shown on the big screen. Village staff remind everyone to bring blankets and chairs.

Officer Kevin Collins of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Village of Palmetto Bay Community Outreach Unit is glad the village is participating in the event and looks forward to it.

“National Night Out is a night where our local police department can come together with the community and share ideas and have a wonderful evening celebrating where we all work and live,” Constable Collins said.

Coral Reef Park is located at 7895 SW 152 St. For updates, visit the village website at or call 305-259-1234.
