Axie Infinity: Origin is around the corner – new gameplay, graphics, maps and more
Axie Infinity was undeniably THE crypto game of 2021, although such a prize doesn’t exist…yet. The game burst onto the scene and exploded in the market last year. However, the unpredictable success of the projects has also weighed on the developers. “With great power comes great responsibility,” Uncle Ben once said.
Sky Mavis had to maintain her expectations to keep the bar she set for herself consistently high. Currently, major crypto developers are preparing a third gameplay version, which has been named “:Origin”.

The developers plan to launch the alpha version of “Origin” in the near future. From what we know so far, the improvements will mainly focus on its interface, gameplay mechanics, graphics, special effects, and new storylines.
Of course, your previously earned Axies are here to stay and will work in Origin, however, anything you earned in the alpha will be removed. The alpha is curated to gather community feedback. Therefore, it’s fair to say that you should stick with the current version if your interest lies in growing your Axie gang.

In terms of gameplay changes, the action itself seems to be heating up. Cards will be available to play during each player’s turn, meaning you’ll need to keep tabs on what your opponent is doing throughout the battle. additionally, cards and energy will no longer stack, meaning players will no longer be able to skip turns to hoard resources.
Now cards can have multiple abilities, not just attack and defense. The number of outfits per Axie will increase from 4 to 6, bringing more variety to the gameplay.
Another novelty introduced is runes and charms. These are power-ups that players can craft themselves using Moonshards and SLP. However, these resources will not carry over from season to season.
The final shakeup is the removal of critical hits which introduced unnecessary and often frustrating randomness to gameplay.
Conclusion Axie Infinity is on its way to becoming a “grown-up” RPG. In the mainstream gaming industry, this genre is hugely diverse, from JRPGs like Final Fantasy to classic Western RPGs like Skyrim. On the other hand, virtual pet RPGs have been largely dominated by Pokémon, and Axie Infinity has made the choice to move away from this influence in favor of implementing mechanics from adjacent RPG game types, such than Final Fantasy and Hearthstone.
For crypto gaming as a whole, it can only be considered a good thing that Sky Mavis strives to constantly improve the game and isn’t afraid to experiment. In a field as changing as blockchain gaming, Axie Infinity simply cannot afford to rest on its laurels.
