In May 2022, Pokémon TCG released the second set of the main series of 2022. The expansion, Sword and Shield – Astral Radiancewas released on May 27, 2022. It is the tenth set under the Sword and Shield banner and is the first to include the Pokemon Radiant mechanic. The Radiant Pokemon are similar to the Shining Pokemon of the past as they include a Shiny Pokemon with holofoil and texture on the face rather than the bottom. The difference, however, is a special holo pattern on the card’s text area. Sword & Shield – Astral Radiance also continues the Trainer Gallery, a special subset of Character Rares, Character Super Rares, Full Art Trainers, and Black & Gold VMAX that started in the previous set, Sword and shield – shining stars. Follow me on a journey through this latest set as we enjoy the artwork, discuss where the card fits in the set, and discuss what certain elements of the set may imply for the future of the set. Pokémon TCG. Today we get to see two of the most wanted cards in the expansion.
Origin Forme Palkia and Origin Forme Dialga get alternate arts in this set and Damn are they beautiful. Say what you will about these Pokémon designs, and the internet has certainly spoken, but the quality and inventive style of these two cards don’t fail. I love how these two cards play with time and space like Palkia and Dialga themselves, creating interesting and intricate imagery that could only appear on alternate art.
Oswaldo KATO features a Palkia V Alternate Art that makes the world look like a chessboard. Is Palkia a chess piece or the brain that plays the game? Next we have my personal hunting card from the set Sword and Shield – Astral Radiance extension, the Dialga V Alternate Art. This timeless beauty is exemplified by Mitsuhiro Aritathe artist behind the iconic Basic set Charizard. Arita still ships bangers, but this is a next-level addition to their staggeringly huge catalog.
