This weekend, some of the nation’s top dancers traveled to Washington, DC to compete in Red Bull’s Dance Your Style National Finals. After hitting stages in Boston, New Orleans, Miami, Atlanta and Chicago, the DC battle winner will represent the USA at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals in Johannesburg, Africa du Sud, on December 4 and 5, 2021.

The 2-day competition saw dancers compete 1-on-1, with the crowd voting for the winner at the end of each round. Contagious energy filled the Howard Theater, from the dance floor to the mezzanine seats. For 60 seconds, we watched each dancer hit us with a high dose of rhythm and flexibility.

Don Soup was by far one of my favorite dancers to take the stage. The lively dancer cracked and fought his way through the pre-finals, but he met his match on the second day of competition.

Krow The God, Angyil, Don Soup and BEAST were the shining stars of the Red Bull Dance Your Style Pre-Finals.

Know the God is known to contort his body in the most jarring way. As he glided across the dance floor, he captivated the audience with his awkwardly twisted arms under his legs and behind his back.

at Angyil confidence was the talk of the competition. The seasoned dancer swept away most of her competitors with her diverse rolodex of moves. From ballet to salsa, she made sure to show us her range. We knew she had instantly become an audience favorite when they started chanting her name at the end of each competition.

Don Soup’s lively dance moves earned him a major victory in the pre-finals. Between his pace and his energy, I’m surprised he didn’t steal the competition.

BEAST came through the pre-finals with his stiff krumping and various shoe-and-hat tricks. Although fun to watch, it didn’t make it to the final.

3. Dassy

When it comes to dancing Dassy is the real deal. Known for her talents in both the underground and mainstream scenes, it’s no surprise that she made her way to the pre-finals and found herself facing Angyil in the finals.

Dassy is the first Korean dancer featured on the award-winning TV show So you think you can dance, where she finished in the top eight among more than 4,000 competitors. From dancing in music videos and commercials to teaching dance at various schools across the country, Dassy lives up to his purpose – and it shows.

4. Angyl

After 2 days of successful bodying at each competition, Angyil came out on top in the Red Bull Dance Your Style contest.

The multi-faceted dancer is skilled in just about every dance genre. Throughout the weekend, she daringly let all her moves onto the dance floor and it definitely paid off. When it comes to winning, Angyil proves that with talent, dedication and drive, the limit is way beyond the sky. “I feel so inspired right now. Winning Red Bull Dance Your Style USA inspires me to surpass every level I’ve ever reached in my life with anything. I’m so motivated.
