The Red Bull Dance Your Style global street dance competition will make its Chicago debut on Friday, September 24 at Thalia Hall. Bringing together the best of hip-hop, house, waacking, popping, krumping, locking down and more, Red Bull Dance Your Style will celebrate the local dance scene and the artists, movers and creators who shape the legacy of Chicago in street dancing.
The best street dancers in the region will compete, via a bracket-style tournament, performing to a spontaneous soundtrack. An audience of dance enthusiasts will act as the judges, ultimately deciding which dancer will advance from each qualifier to the Red Bull Dance Your Style USA National Finals taking place Friday, October 22 through Saturday, October 23 in Washington DC. Planned choreography, and no pre-chosen music, it’s about embracing the moment, wowing the crowd and moving to the beat.
With the creation of footwork and Detroit Jit, the region has made an indelible contribution to street dancing. Celebrating the city’s impact on the scene and the local performers pushing street dance forward, competitors include self-proclaimed Queen of Jit, Queen Gabby, footwork aficionado Pause Eddy and de Chicago.
The evening will be hosted by BRAVEMONK, a member of legendary Chicago band Phaze II Crosstown Crew, and Chicago-based DJ King Marie, who will provide a spontaneous soundtrack of mainstream hits to timeless classics for the night. Audiences will enjoy a special presentation by local footwork team, The Era and dance crew, The Pack Drumline & Dance Crew.
The Red Bull Dance Your Style Chicago Qualifier is open to the public with doors opening at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for purchase here. For those unable to attend, the qualifier will be available to watch AND VOTE via the official live stream partner Caffeine.
