Today’s sponsors offer special activities at the South Dakota State Fair
Huron, SD – With the help of daytime sponsors, the State Fair is offering promotional days throughout the 2022 South Dakota State Fair. Each day offers different activities and gifts.
Wednesday August 31, is Channel Seeds preview day. Preview Day at the State Fair offers free admission to allow visitors to preview the fair. The carnival opens at 5 p.m. and all rides are $1 each. The Red Wilk Construction Tuff Hedeman Bull Bash kicks off the grandstand entertainment at 8 p.m.
Thursday, September 1, is Value-Added Agriculture Day where attendees can learn about value-added agriculture in South Dakota. The Value-Added Agricultural Development Center helped start or expand crop and livestock products made throughout the state. Stop by the daytime sponsor’s tent to meet the growers and see some of these value-added items and join us for an ice cream night.
Friday, September 2, is Protrollo Engine Day. Be sure to stop by Prostrollo Motors on Hwy 14 East in Huron before the fair to get a coupon for $1 off daily admission to the State Fair. Stop by the Prostrollo Motors building to see the newest vehicles from Chevrolet, Buick and GMC, including a great selection of 2021 and 2022 Chevy and GMC pickup trucks with end-of-year model discounts. Also, sign up for a chance to win the “best seats in the house” during the Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows in the grandstand.
Visitors to the fair are encouraged to participate in the “Wear RED (Remember Everyone Deployed)” protest on Friday to support our troops and wear a red shirt at the fair! At 1:45 p.m., visitors dressed in red are invited to the NorthWestern Energy Freedom Stage to take a group photo. Photos will be sent to our deployed troops!
Stop by the Prostrollo Motors building all week to sign a thank you sign and after the fair the signs will be sent to deployed troops along with Wear RED photos!
Saturday September 3, is SD Farmers Union Day. SD Farmers Union hosts events throughout the day to celebrate the family farmers, ranchers, and rural communities across the state of South Dakota that they so proudly represent. The highlight of the activity day is the annual Farmer’s Share Luncheon (limited meals available) located in the tent near the Freedom Stage from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Compared to the retail price of the meal, $13 , participants will be able to pay just $0.35 for a meal that showcases the farmer’s share of retail food dollars.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is sponsoring DPS Day at the State Fair on Sunday September 4. DPS staff members will be located from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the site of the day sponsor tent. There will be giveaways, including the traditional DPS hats and visors, free bottled water, and a chance to renew your driver’s license (remember to bring two documents proving your address.) Highway Dog Demonstrations The ever-popular Patrol and Tommy the Turtle Disaster Preparedness talks resume this year at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
Monday, September 5, is Avera Farm and Ranch Support Day. Avera offers the Farm and Rural Stress Hotline at 1-800-691-4336 for those with tough hands when they need someone to talk to. Extreme weather conditions, machinery breakdowns, an unstable agricultural environment, long hours that make it difficult to spend time with family, and declining incomes are all sources of friction. Avera will have information to share about this service, financial aid, and other mental health services in the daytime sponsor tent. Free mental health vouchers for every farmer, ranch, and family member in the state are offered by the South Dakota Agricultural Behavioral Health Program.
Join us for one last round of fun in 22 Monday, September 5, your last day to check off all the items on your to-do list before the end – treat yourself to your favorite food, buy that item on your wishlist, take one last ride on the ferris wheel and enjoy the entertainment. Bring the whole family to watch the ATV Big Air Tour sponsored by American Bank & Trust in the grandstand at 1 p.m.! The show is free with paid admission.
Visitors can help “stock the shelves” on Monday, September 5. Bring a non-perishable food item for the ‘Stock the Shelves’ food drive between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and receive $2 off daily admission.
The State Fair will “pay it forward” thanks to the companies that have banded together to sponsor the admission passes. Fair officials will randomly distribute free passes at entrance gates.
The 2022 South Dakota State Fair runs from Thursday, September 1 through Monday, September 5. The Channel Seeds preview party will take place on Wednesday August 31st.
